LOUIS VUITTON Stephen Sprouse Pink Graffiti Monogram Neverfull GM - Limited Edition 2009

$3,900.00 AUD

Pre-owned LOUIS VUITTON Stephen Sprouse Pink Graffiti Monogram Neverfull GM - Limited Edition 2009

Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM from the 2009 Stephen Sprouse limited edition, in Monogram coated canvas overprinted with the artist's signature graffiti script in neon pink. Date code SPXXX9 — made in France, week 9 of 2009. Finished with natural cowhide leather trim and flat leather shoulder straps, golden brass hardware, and side laces that cinch the silhouette or release it for maximum capacity. The open-top design opens flat for effortless access, with a fabric-lined interior and a hanging pocket. The GM is the largest of the Neverfull family — a true carry-everything tote for travel, work and weekends.

Condition: Great. Exterior shows gentle signs of use; the body is clean and mark-free, with honey patina to the leather trim and handles, gentle wear to the trim edges, slight cracking to a handle, and hairline scratches visible on close inspection. Interior generally clean with one mark inside the pocket; no other marks or stains.

Please examine all photos carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.

Please note: colour may appear different in photos and in person due to lighting and screen settings; be mindful of this when assessing the shade.

Pre-loved, this piece comes with an authentication certificate. We video-record each step of packing and provide end-to-end tracking to maintain a secure chain of custody from our showroom to your door.

This piece is pre-owned and preloved, so mild signs of use are to be expected. We’ve photographed and described every notable mark to ensure you know exactly what you’re getting before you buy.

Why We Love

The collaboration that broke the rules — and became canon

In 2001, Marc Jacobs did something that horrified a certain kind of Louis Vuitton customer: he invited Stephen Sprouse, the downtown New York artist and designer who had spent the eighties dressing Debbie Harry and collapsing the distance between punk, pop art and fashion, to graffiti over the house's most sacred asset. Sprouse scrawled Louis Vuitton across the Monogram in day-glo spray-can script, and the effect was genuinely shocking — a 150-year-old French heritage pattern defaced, in neon, by hand.

It became one of the most important fashion collaborations ever produced. Sprouse died in 2004, and in 2009 Marc Jacobs brought the graffiti back as a tribute to him — reissued in a limited run of neon colourways, alongside the Sprouse Roses line. That 2009 release is what this bag belongs to. It is not simply a printed Louis Vuitton; it is a memorial edition to an artist, produced once, in a defined quantity, and never repeated.

The Sprouse pieces now occupy a specific place in the market: they are the ones that get referenced in retrospectives, the ones that show up in museum-adjacent conversations about the moment luxury and street culture actually merged rather than merely flirted. They are treated by serious collectors as blue-chip, and the supply is fixed and falling.

Why pink is the one everyone wants

The 2009 tribute ran in several neon colourways, and pink is consistently the most sought after. There is a reason. Against the brown-and-gold of the Monogram, the fluorescent pink creates a collision that is impossible to look away from — hot, urgent, slightly punk, and completely joyful. Green reads cooler and more graphic; orange reads more aggressive. Pink is the one that captures what Sprouse was actually doing, which was making something serious look fun without making it look silly.

It's also, unexpectedly, easy to wear. Because the graffiti is an overprint rather than a background, the base tone stays warm and neutral, so the bag behaves like a Monogram piece that happens to have an incredible accent — it works with denim, black, white, camel and grey without a moment's thought. It is a statement bag that doesn't require you to build an outfit around it.

The Neverfull GM: the least precious icon in the house

Introduced in 2007, the Neverfull is Louis Vuitton's most quietly brilliant modern design. It is barely a design at all — an open-top tote, flat shoulder straps, side laces to adjust the volume, and nothing else. No zip to fight, no flap to lift, no lock to turn. You drop things in and you go. The side laces let you cinch it into a narrower, more elegant shape or release them for the full capacity, which is the only adjustment it ever needs.

The GM is the largest of the three sizes, and it is a genuine workhorse: laptop, files, gym kit, a day's shopping, or everything a small child requires. It's the size people take on planes, to the beach, to the office. Which is exactly what makes this bag so compelling — the Neverfull is the least precious bag Louis Vuitton makes, and here it's carrying one of the most collectible prints the house has ever released. That tension is the whole appeal. It is a museum-grade collaboration on a bag you're actually allowed to use.

Reading the condition honestly

On a print edition, the canvas is the asset, and here it is clean and mark-free — the graffiti is intact, the body unblemished. That is the single most important thing about this bag and it has been preserved.

The wear is in the vachetta, which is exactly where a fifteen-year-old Neverfull GM shows its life. The natural cowhide trim and handles have darkened to a deep honey patina — the part of a Louis Vuitton that can only be earned, and the finish collectors specifically look for as evidence of a bag that was genuinely carried and cared for. There is gentle wear to the trim edges, slight cracking to a handle, and hairline scratches visible on close inspection. Inside, one mark in the pocket and nothing else.

None of this is hidden and none of it is structural — and it's worth knowing that vachetta handles are replaceable through Louis Vuitton's own repair service, so the one genuinely progressive point of wear on this bag is also the one that can be professionally addressed if a future owner chooses.

Why this one

A France-made, launch-window 2009 Stephen Sprouse Neverfull GM in the most desirable colourway, with the print — the thing that determines its value — clean and unmarked. It's a tribute edition to an artist who is no longer here, from a collection that cannot be reissued, on the one silhouette that makes owning something this collectible feel entirely uncomplicated.
