Preowned LOUIS VUITTON Montaigne MM Monogram Empreinte Leather Navy Blue | Luxe Again Maison

LOUIS VUITTON Montaigne MM Monogram Empreinte Leather Navy Blue

$3,500.00 AUD

Pre-owned LOUIS VUITTON Montaigne BB Monogram Canvas x Leather Bag

A beautifully structured city bag in Louis Vuitton's Monogram Empreinte leather, the house monogram embossed into supple calfskin for a subtle, tonal take on the pattern. Finished in a rich blue, the Montaigne MM holds its shape well and offers hand, shoulder and crossbody carry.

The exterior shows very gentle signs of use. The leather is clean and free of marks, with the embossed monogram crisp throughout. Hardware retains its finish with slight hairline scratches visible on close inspection, the metal base feet show light scuffing consistent with normal placement, and there is slight oxidisation to the zipper. The coated finish on the handles shows gentle cracking, typical for the model and not affecting function.

The interior is very clean, with slight marks visible on the external leather trim, and all compartments remain in excellent order.

Please examine all photos carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.

Please note: colour may appear different in photos and in person due to lighting and screen settings; be mindful of this when assessing the shade.

Pre-loved and 100 % authentic, this piece comes with an original receipt. We video-record each step of packing and provide end-to-end tracking to maintain a secure chain of custody from our showroom to your door.

This piece is pre-owned and preloved, so mild signs of use are to be expected. We’ve photographed and described every notable mark to ensure you know exactly what you’re getting before you buy.

Why We Love

Why We Love the Louis Vuitton Montaigne MM in Blue Monogram Empreinte

There is a version of Louis Vuitton that everyone knows: brown coated canvas, gold monogram, visible from across a room. And then there is this one, which is the same house speaking much more quietly, and for a lot of people it is the better conversation.

The monogram, pressed rather than printed

Monogram Empreinte takes the most recognisable pattern in luxury and does something almost subversive with it. Instead of printing the monogram onto coated canvas, Louis Vuitton embosses it into supple calfskin, so the flowers and initials are formed by the leather itself rather than sitting on top of it.

The effect is completely different. Tonal, textural, catching light rather than colour. At conversational distance you register a beautifully grained leather bag; step closer and the monogram resolves. It is there for anyone who looks and invisible to anyone who does not.

For a great many buyers, that is exactly the right amount of Louis Vuitton. You get the heritage, the pattern, the century and a half of trunk making behind it, without wearing an advertisement. It also makes the bag far more versatile than its coated canvas cousins, because a tonal blue leather bag goes with a wardrobe in a way that a brown printed one simply does not.

Leather that improves

The other reason to choose Empreinte over canvas is what happens to it over time.

Coated canvas is a hard wearing, weatherproof, essentially unchanging material. That is a genuine virtue, but it means the bag looks much the same in year ten as it did in year one. Empreinte is real calfskin, so it does what good leather does. It softens with handling. It develops a subtle sheen where hands and sleeves touch it. The grain deepens. The bag relaxes very slightly without losing its architecture.

That means a pre-loved Empreinte piece has something a new one does not: it has already begun. The stiffness is gone, the leather has settled, and what you are buying is a bag that has been broken in by somebody else's first year.

Blue, and why it is the smarter neutral

Louis Vuitton has made Empreinte in black, cream, plum and a run of blues over the years. Blue is the one we keep coming back to.

Black is the obvious choice and disappears into everything, which is its strength and also its problem. Blue does the same work without the severity. A deep blue reads as considered rather than default, sits beautifully against navy, grey, camel, denim, white and black, and photographs far better than black leather ever does. In a room of black work bags it is the one that looks like a decision rather than a fallback.

It also flatters the embossing. A mid to deep blue holds shadow in the recesses of the monogram, so the pattern reads more clearly than it does on black, where the whole surface tends to flatten out.

Built like a briefcase, cut like a handbag

The Montaigne takes its name from Avenue Montaigne, the Paris street where luxury goes to shop, and the design is unmistakably a city bag.

It is properly structured, holding its shape whether full or nearly empty, which is the difference between a bag that looks composed on a desk and one that slumps. The interior is divided into distinct compartments with a zipped section between them, so a laptop or tablet, a wallet, and the daily debris all have somewhere to live rather than settling into a single heap at the bottom.

Metal feet on the base are one of those details that only matter once you have owned a bag without them. They keep the leather off café floors and office carpets, and they take the scuffing that the leather would otherwise absorb.

And it carries three ways. Top handles in the hand, top handles in the crook of the arm, or the removable strap on the shoulder or crossbody. That flexibility is why it works as a commuting bag, a travel bag and an evening bag without ever looking like it was designed for one of them.

Honest wear, honestly described

This example shows very gentle use. The leather is clean and unmarked and the embossed monogram is crisp throughout, which is the important part. Hardware carries slight hairline scratches on close inspection, the base feet show light scuffing, and there is slight oxidisation to the zipper.

The handles show gentle cracking to their coated finish. We would rather say so plainly than bury it, and we would also point out that it is characteristic of the model rather than evidence of mistreatment. Handles take the concentrated load of the whole bag and every gram of hand oil that goes with it, and the coated finish on them is the first thing to show a life. It does not affect function, and it is straightforward for Louis Vuitton or a good leather specialist to address if you would rather it did not show at all.

The interior is very clean with no marks or stains, which tells you as much about how this bag was treated as anything on the outside does.

The case for pre-loved

A Montaigne MM bought new is a serious purchase. Bought pre-loved, in excellent condition, with the leather already softened and the shape still perfect, it becomes one of the better value propositions in the category.

We love this bag because it is the grown up Louis Vuitton. Real leather rather than coated canvas, a monogram you have to look for, a colour that reads as choice rather than habit, and an interior organised by somebody who understood that a beautiful bag still has to work.
